I am laughing my butt off. Logged into Wii Fit and since it has all the stats on my family, it asked me if I had gotten dear hubby a present yet. I am beginning to think this game system is so attractive to non-gamers, because it has a personality to it that PS2, Xbox, and pcs just don’t have. Now I have excuse not to get something forhubby. The Wii wouldn’t forgive me! LOL

Wii workout without the Fit
I know that I am going off topic here, but it does pertain to my desire to get fit using the Wii, I promise!
Wow, I played rounds of Star Wars: Clone Wars Light Saber Duels with the family and boy is my arm sore. I think it was the extra weight of the light saber accessory for the Wiimote. That is a good workout!
I am going to have to play the game by myself, though. Otherwise, I am going to have one toned arm and one weak arm. I will have to do left handed play when the family is not around, because wouldn’t you know I have a title to defend….
So if you want to work on your arm strength and the tricep extension isn’t doing it, here is alternative. And the game is fun too!
WiiMote Armband – Hands free Wii Fit Fun
First go and take a look at the product:

I have to say that the prospect of not having to put down, pick up the wiimote every 5 seconds is appealing. However, I could not work out with that velcroed to my wrist or arm. Thankfully, dear hubby purchased a Wii Fit pouch that has the same purpose. I like it since it holds the wiimote and I can shove it front, back, or either side. That is just me though. So here is the option I use:

EDITED** Actually I do use the first product now. I love my spiderman arm band Wiimote controller!

Weight Limit for Wii Fit Balance Board
Got to talking to the neighbors, and got on topic of the fit since she really wants one. The problem she has though is her 6′ 5″ husband could not use it. I thought that didn’t make sense, but then she explained. Since he is so tall, he is concerned about the recommended Wii Fit weight limit. That makes sense since he has run into problems with various items before with his stature..
I had to check limit, since I want to help my friend get her Wii Fit. On the back of the Wii Balance Board, it states weight limit is 330 pounds.
I would have never thought about this issue. I guess it is better to know than not. If you are over 330 pounds, I guess the balance board isn’t for you.
Complaints that irk Mii about the Wii Fit program
I have seen much debate over using the Wii Fit to exercise verses just going out and getting exercise in a gym or outdoors. I am beginning to think these are the people that never got out of shape in the first place! LOL. Over the last ten years I have gotten more involved with taking care of my family and have put myself last in terms of needs. I would never change that, but when you finally do wake up since the family is growing up you realize just how far you have let yourself go. To those people who say I should just do it, are you coming over to spend that time with my family and administering to their needs while I am away from the house? While they may not need me as much, I still need to be there. And I also need to be around in terms of longevity. Don’t knock me because I found a way to get exercise that involves a “game” that still fits into my life.
Second, I was a bit embarrassed when my Mii went from skinny to plump. However, there is quite a comical aspect to it. I think now that if the Fit program didn’t do that, I wouldn’t have been as motivated to use the program. My idea self that is stored in my head is still one of the skinny college girl. It really didn’t register with me what those extra pounds really looked like since they crept on over time. While that overweight tag made me sigh, the physical representation of an overweight Mii really woke me up. To that end, I thank the programmers for coding the game to do that. You have made it possible for me to start on a journey to a better, healthier lifestyle. And who knows maybe there will come a day that my Mii doesn’t plump up so much.
ZooZen Wii Balance Board Riser
People think up so many new creations. Here is a stand you put under the balance board to raise it 4 more inches off the floor. The page says that this is the height of a standard workout stepper.
I don’t know whether to be excited by this improvement Wii Fit accessory or not. First since it is made from plastic, I wonder how it will handle under a repeated heavy weight load. I am still a bit uncoordinated in my work outs. (Still working on that center of balance and muscle strength issue….) Second, it folds up for compact storage. Again, I question will it hold up to my repeated step up, step off motion.
I guess there is only truly one way to know. I will have to find one, use it, and review it.

Jillian Michaels Fitness Ultimatum 2009 Review

I received this game for Christmas and was excited since I really like Jillian on the tv show “The Biggest Loser.” However, knowing how tough she was on the competitors of the show I was afraid to try the game. I finally took a deep breath and dove in.
Set up was really easy. You do have to design yourself an avatar in the game as you are unable to access the Miis. After that you are ready to get started training. In the training screen, you have the option to use 2 wiimotes or a wiimote and nunchuck. This is also where you start up the Wii Balance Board if you have one. Next you move on to what kind of training you would like to do; weight loss, strength, hill climb, or intervals. I do like the fact then you can pick the length of time your workout will be and how intense.
Now that all those factors are set, you are ready to start playing/training. I have to say that the first impression was very disappointing. If you have played the Wii Fit, the movement to on screen action is not as precise. The activity explanations take a few times to understand what movement you should be doing. The music tracks sound very similar to one another, although you can change them during game play. However, you do overcome those limitations after a few sessions.
Once you complete the circuit, you have the stats that come up to tell you how you did. Even though I have played the games, I was not good enough to have it record any scores yet. One nice stat this game has is it tracks the calories burned. It is interesting to see which activities burn how much.
I understand some of the disappointed reviews I have read. However, given that I need to lose weight and get active, I am going to keep this game in my arsenal. It gives me a different set of workouts to do: paint grenade toss, cannon attack, handcar pump, tire trail, rowing, monkey bars, log jump, log walk, boxing, punching bag dodge, and “running.” (We all know you can’t run on the balance board, and this is the fill in exercise between activities.)
EA Sports Active Game Balance Board Compatible
Was doing web surfing and found a new game that is to be compatible with the Wii Balance Board. Active by EA Sports is scheduled to be released in Spring! Being the Wii Fit Girl, I love to try new fitness programs for the Wii and balance board.
From the website description, it seems like Active is going to be more intense than Fit. Along with the software, the packaging will include a leg strap and resistance band. The description also says the workouts are going to focus on 20 minute circuits which will be tracked in a 30 day challenge format.
However, I think the best feature I read is that it will also have a two player customized workout split screen capability! Now we will be able to workout with others. Active is also supposed to be able to track both players that participate. I am guessing that this feature will not use the balance board since the board packaging still says only one can be used with a console at a time. At least it is a beginning to having a workout buddy!

Watch out for that….. wiimote!?!?
I can laugh about this now, but at the time it was not too funny. I was knocked in the noggin by my dear hubby’s wiimote. Thankfully, it didn’t leave a mark, but left us with good story!
Here are a couple of other stories about wiimotes and unintended collisions from my real life.
1) Again dear hubby and I were wiing (didn’t we buy the Wii for the kids?) on Light Saber Duels. You can see it coming, our light saber extensions crashed. One wiimote actually fell out onto the floor. It was real life dueling at that point….LOL
2) A dear friend playing her sons Wii with the tennis racket extension actually knocked down the globe over her living room light fixture. Luckily no harm was done, but again you have to be careful.
3) While doing Wii Fit Advanced Step aerobics (not so gracefully) I actually ended up bumping into a cedar chest that normally isn’t in the way. Had a bruise on my shin. Was embarrassed enough that I wouldn’t tell my husband what happened.
Here I am emphasizing the need to heed those Wii warnings and make sure that you have a 360 degree clear circumference. Even the most simple wii task can end up with an interesting story.
Amputees get to walk again with Wii Fit
Interesting article that points out the fact that the center of balance feature on the balance board is helping those with prosthetic limbs be able to utilize the limb more normally. http://www.absolutegadget.com/200901062074/news/games/amputees-get-to-walk-again-with-wii-fit.html
I knew it was amazing, but dang the Wii and Balance Board just went up another notch. I love it!
