Sega releasing Pilates for WII Balance Board

SAN FRANCISCO (May 19, 2009) – SEGA® of America, Inc. today announced Daisy Fuentes Pilates, the first Pilates workout program for the Wii™. Set at a lush tropical resort and hosted by Daisy Fuentes, longtime Pilates icon and star of the entertainment industry, the title supports the Wii Balance Board™. Created in partnership with Interactive Game Group, Daisy Fuentes Pilates features customizable workouts, fitness tracking real-time coaching and interactive feedback…
“Pilates is like no other exercise,” Daisy Fuentes continued. “It makes your muscles long and lean – not bulky. It focuses on the connection between your mind and body, giving you smooth control over your movements. And the Wii is a great way to practice it – whether you’re getting started for the first time or looking for a more convenient way to integrate Pilates into your ongoing exercise routine.”

Looks like another good title to come out utilizing the Wii Balance Board. I am excited since I really like my Wii yoga. I am unfamiliar with pilates, but if the quote is any indication I will be utilizing this program too! I love hearing about up and coming games.

We Ski! Pre-Review

Well, thanks to DH’s obession with BattleStar I only got a half hour on the game.  What I saw was pretty fun!

Being typical, I went right for the top of the mountain.  The heck with the boring ski school or even the bunny slope.  The only way to do it is to jump right in!  LOL.  The basic jist is you start with no points and as you ski down the mountain you gain more points for performance and tricks like jumps.  My husband, an avid skier, said the way I was performing using the remote and nunchuck I would have eaten TONS of snow.  Thank goodness it is a video game!

When I figured out how to use the balance board on the game was when it became the most fun!  Wow, it makes it so much easier.  And I love the fact that if I step off the board the game will automatically pause.  Sometimes you need that when you are laughing too hard to stand.  :)   We Ski & Snowboard is due to arrive in March, and given the fun on the first We Ski it will probably be worth it.  Now to wrestle the game from the kids so I can get even more information….

Game titles for Wii Announced

I love that the developers are taking into account the fact that we now have another type controller in consideration as they program their newest games. The latest titles to be announced are Go Play Series by Majesco, which are Wii Balance Board compatible, and Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games, which utilizes the Balance Board in some features for more realistic game play. While we will have more skiing and snowboarding in the Winter Games, I am hopeful the titles will continue to expand the use of the balance board especially since the other titles mix motion based fun with everyday activities according to the press release.

The Go Play Series titles currently include the planned titles of Lumberjax, City Sports, and Circus Star. The anticipated release date for these Wii games is spring, summer, and fall respectively. Sega and Nintendo plan to release the Winter Olympic title late 2009, probably just in time for the Christmas shopping season.

Here are the links to the Sega/Nintendo and Majesco press releases.

Another scheduled title

Filed under: Wii Balance Board games — Tags: , — @ 6:06 pm

I apologize that this announcement is behind everyone else, but I can not find a direct link to game information. I have spent days searching and only find what is posted on other blogs. Since I pride myself in giving my readers facts on Wii balance board games, I am hesitant to post the information. On the other hand, if I don’t, someone will say I missed a game that uses the Fit balance board. So here is a link to the blog post I like the most:

http://wii.ign.com/articles/944/944183p1.html

The game is entitled Marbles! Balance Challenge. It seems intuitive, but without info from the company I can not be 100% accurate. My thought is it expands on the marble type challenge already a part of the Wii Fii game. The difference is there are obstacle challenges and levels to overcome.

WE Ski & Snowboard

Another Wii Fit game is scheduled for release!

Expanding on their first Nintendo Wii game for the balance board, Bandia Namco is releasing WE Ski & Snowboard. Unlike We Ski, it appears that you will be able to do more tricks and stunts at the Fun Park. Check it out here: http://www.namcobandaigames.com/games/weskisnowboard/features

My family wanted We Ski for Christmas, but it was sold out around us. Huge surprise…. Now I think that I will wait until the expanded version arrives in March. With better maneuverability and backgrounds, who wouldn’t wait at this point.

Jillian Michaels Fitness Ultimatum 2009 Review

jillian-2

I received this game for Christmas and was excited since I really like Jillian on the tv show “The Biggest Loser.” However, knowing how tough she was on the competitors of the show I was afraid to try the game. I finally took a deep breath and dove in.

Set up was really easy. You do have to design yourself an avatar in the game as you are unable to access the Miis. After that you are ready to get started training. In the training screen, you have the option to use 2 wiimotes or a wiimote and nunchuck. This is also where you start up the Wii Balance Board if you have one. Next you move on to what kind of training you would like to do; weight loss, strength, hill climb, or intervals. I do like the fact then you can pick the length of time your workout will be and how intense.

Now that all those factors are set, you are ready to start playing/training.  I have to say that the first impression was very disappointing.  If you have played the Wii Fit, the movement to on screen action is not as precise.  The activity explanations take a few times to understand what movement you should be doing.  The music tracks sound very similar to one another, although you can change them during game play. However, you do overcome those limitations after a few sessions.

Once you complete the circuit, you have the stats that come up to tell you how you did.  Even though I have played the games, I was not good enough to have it record any scores yet.  One nice stat this game has is it tracks the calories burned.  It is interesting to see which activities burn how much.

I understand some of the disappointed reviews I have read.  However, given that I need to lose weight and get active, I am going to keep this game in my arsenal.  It gives me a different set of workouts to do: paint grenade toss, cannon attack, handcar pump, tire trail, rowing, monkey bars, log jump, log walk, boxing, punching bag dodge, and “running.” (We all know you can’t run on the balance board, and this is the fill in exercise between activities.)

EA Sports Active Game Balance Board Compatible

Was doing web surfing and found a new game that is to be compatible with the Wii Balance Board. Active by EA Sports is scheduled to be released in Spring! Being the Wii Fit Girl, I love to try new fitness programs for the Wii and balance board.

From the website description, it seems like Active is going to be more intense than Fit. Along with the software, the packaging will include a leg strap and resistance band. The description also says the workouts are going to focus on 20 minute circuits which will be tracked in a 30 day challenge format.

However, I think the best feature I read is that it will also have a two player customized workout split screen capability! Now we will be able to workout with others. Active is also supposed to be able to track both players that participate. I am guessing that this feature will not use the balance board since the board packaging still says only one can be used with a console at a time. At least it is a beginning to having a workout buddy!

Go and have a look for yourself:
