Forward Weight Loss

Filed under: Wii Fit Workout Challenge — @ 5:18 pm

Not only has the Balance Board said that my “Fit Age” is decreasing, but I have lost an additional two pounds! :) It always fun to see the weight loss go down on the graph rather than up. That makes a total loss of 15 pounds this year! I’ll take that since it is more likely to stay away… And I will keep the decrease in 7-9 years in my Fit age. Slow and steady and I am going to be a “skinny minnie” this time next year! :) (Can you tell I am excited? haha)

15 minutes of Fun

Filed under: wii workouts — @ 3:49 pm

Just got done doing 15 minutes on the Wii Fit Plus. My calf and feet muscles are thinking about revolting. :) It was a different workout than my 4 mile walk this morning. Of course, that could be because I chose specifically to do the tummy reduction workout. I did it twice. That gives me a total of 20 jackknives, 20 leg twists, and 2 games of snowball, my favorite! The kids chose a couple of other games for me too so I would have my 15 minutes. Didn’t burn enough calories to equal a soda pop, but it is all good since I was down .4 of a pound after re-hydrating!!!!

You might wonder why are you doing all this different type activity? Not only do I want to be healthy, but I some how talked myself into doing a 5k in 30 minutes. (That’s 3.1 miles for anyone who doesn’t want to do the math.) I don’t have the endurance to make it yet. I can walk it but, like this morning, it takes about an hour to complete. And I want to half that. (What am I thinking?) However, I am encouraged that I am definitely more in control of my body since my Fit Age is down 5 years from my real age as well.

I’m going places. How ’bout you? Will you be able to look back and say THANK YOU NINTENDO for starting my on this course? :)

You can do it too!

Filed under: wii workouts — @ 12:54 pm

Well, I have been working out consistently since the beginning of the year. I have gotten to the point that I have to do something in addition the the different balance board games. I have been walking increased distances, most recently between 4 -6 miles, in a day. Sometimes I can’t believe this all started by purchasing a Wii Fit. Boggles my mind!

In addition to the increasing physical activity, I have lost 18 pounds! I am definitely at a plateau right now, so I am needing to change up my routine. Dear Hubby has purchased the Wii Fit Plus disk for me. It is time to transition to the newest and hopefully better program. I will be blogging about Wii Fit Plus over the next couple of weeks.

Come join me on my journey!

Helpful tool

Filed under: wii workouts — @ 4:17 pm

I am sharing with you another tool I am using to help get my in shape and lose weight: Calorie Count (http://caloriecount.about.com). Helps me make sure I am not eating too much and compare that to how much I am burning. The Wii Fit Plus gives me the approximate amount of calories I burn per routine, so I can enter it at Calorie Count too. Good tool.

And I was off…

Filed under: wii workouts — @ 8:02 pm

Well, it has been a wild time in the year since I began this blog. (Where does the time go?) I am here to say the Wii Fit did an amazing job of getting me moving in the beginning. I went from inactive up to attempting to run daily in 8 months. Not bad for a simple machine and computer program!

The problem is that after vacationing and feeling good, I didn’t think to continue. Pulled my back out again, so I am pulling out the Wii and Balance Board! Time to make some more gains. This time to keep my motivation, I intend to continue blogging when I make the transition to other activities.

Here’s to another start! Just logged 19 minutes on the Wii Fit program…

Wii Fit weight loss stories #2

Just surfing today and found an inspiration and interesting story about Mickey DeLorenzo’s Wii Fit Experiment (http://www.wiinintendo.net/2008/06/23/the-official-wii-fit-experment-results/). He was able to lose 15 pounds in 45 days. He also measured his body fat percentage and was able to reduce that as well. The only thing he did different in his daily life was to wii fit everyday for 30-60 minutes. Mickey stated that he attempted to do the push up planks and jackknives each day, as well as focusing his time overall on strength training.

Again I have thought this was a fabulous tool to get you started and up off the couch. I think I would benefit from sharing my progression, if I was not so shy. :) I am starting on another rotation from my trainer this next week, I think it may just be the point to start posting my stats up.

Suggestion from my Wii Trainer

Filed under: wii workouts — @ 2:46 pm

So I have consulted a personal, certified trainer to help me make the most of my Wii Workouts. She asked if I was getting my heart rate into the optimal range. She thought given my description that I probably was, but thought that adding a heart rate monitor to my arsenal may help since they can beep at me when I am too slow or too fast. It was pretty much a duh why didn’t I think of that moment.

Now I am looking at monitors. There is a selection out there. Although, since my DH wants to be able to use it as well, it may be a while until we find one that will be able to track both of us without changing info every time.

Just passing the thought along for those who are using the Wii Fit to get serious about losing weight and getting healthier! :)

Workout Challenge #3

Filed under: Wii Fit Workout Challenge — Tags: , — @ 10:17 pm

It is no longer time to be shy since I am in the progress of hiring a personal trainer and/or a yoga teacher to help me lose more weight with the Wii Fit.  The balance board weighed me in at 158 today.  Not good, although not bad since I am no longer 160 and I had it on carpet.

That is going to be my “official” re-starting weight.

UK Physical Therapist blogs about getting fit with Wii Fit

A good article that starts to address the burning question of “Can I get fit using a Wii Fit.” Overall seems to be in the direction of YES, but it takes consistent effort.

The trainer points out that you need 3 elements to be an exercise that will make you fit. 1)Intensity or “kick your butt factor.” 2)An elevated heart rate for a specific amount of time. 3) Consistent use 3-5 times a week.

Wii activities can do that for you if you let them. I have to get back on my goal of losing 25 pounds. Guess this means that I need to do more of the activities than Yoga. :)
